Donna M. Keough

Donna M. Keough passed away Monday, April 22, 2019, at home.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Reg “Bussie” and Lucy (Ingram) Tobin.
Donna had 29 years’ service with the CBRM, starting with the Sydney Police Department in traffic until amalgamation, as well as the tax and water department. She was instrumental in creating the first website and networking system for our newly amalgamated CBRM and was a certified software trainer, who would never turn away any of her co-workers who needed help. They knew her as the “Candy Lover” and “Cookie Lover”. She was also involved in obtaining and fundraising for the first CBRPS Canine Unit. Donna’s work ethic was second to none, whether it was “Jack of all Trades” at home or working endless hours to help her co-workers with any of their projects. A special mention to Dale Young, Donna Murphy, Allison Angell-Oliver and the rest of her co-workers for all the help she received over the years. Donna loved a game of tarabish with her friends or floating on her swan with a “cold one” in her pride and joy, her pool. She was born and raised in the North End of Sydney. It will always be her heart and soul.
Donna is survived by her only child, her loving son, Mark MacKinnon (Amy Doran); grandchildren, Mariah and Sophia (Brandon) Dalton; Amy’s children, Rosa and Gia; the mother of her grandchildren, Carrie Ann Bonnar; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley (Reg), Gloria (Paul), Kenny (Janet), Rickey, Fred (Cheryl), Catherina (John), Theresa MacKenzie, sister-in-law, Liz Tobin and Cathy Keough; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her ex-husband, Murdock MacKinnon (Bonita) and Mark’s brother and sister, Sandy and Holly, as well as her best friends for life, Anne and Kevin Smith, Bev Muldoon, Bea, Arlene and Patsy.
Besides her parents, Donna was predeceased by her grandson, Vinnie; brother, Kevin; brothers-in-law, Andrew Keough and Gordie Dalton; nephew, Stephen Keough.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, April 25 from 6-8 p.m., with words of remembrance at 7 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to Palliative Care at the CBRH or the SPCA.
Many thanks to Dr. Steven MacDougall, who was Donna’s doctor since he opened his practice, the nursing staff at the Cancer Center and the Palliative Care Team who all went above and beyond to make Donna comfortable.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
