Doris May Heading

Doris May Heading from Westmount, Cape Breton, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 28, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born April 13, 1933, in Whitney Pier, Doris was the eldest daughter of the late Fred and Vivian (Verge) Colbourne.
Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur; son, Peter; sister, Minnie (Bud MacDonald); brothers, Fred, Harold (Lorraine), George (Sharon) and Gerald.
Doris is survived by her dear son (B.F.F.), George Arthur; daughter-in-law, Patricia Chaif; two beautiful granddaughters, Lauren and Meaghan, all of Montreal, QC; sister, Freda (John Marusiak), Whitney Pier; brother, Gordon (Sylvia), Sydney; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, amazing neighbours, many dear friends and legion comrades.
Doris was a Registered Nurse who trained at the Sydney City Hospital. She enjoyed the years she worked in the operating room immensely. Doris was a very proud and active life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 126, Westside, a loyal member of the Cape Breton Veterans Comfort Fund Association and the Cape Breton District Command Association. For over 20 years, until her health would not permit, she represented the nursing sisters who served their country during the World Wars by wearing her full nurses uniform during the Remembrance Day parade and services at her RCL Branch 126, Westside.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, May 3rd from 5-8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, May 4th at 11 a.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of 4B and the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, home care and the VON, as well as Dr. Glen Worth, her family doctor of many years, for the kind and compassionate care provided to my mother. It was very much appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the C.B. District Veterans Comfort Fund, the Children’s Wish Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
