Marie MacKinnon
It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Marie MacKinnon of New Victoria, N.S. Marie passed peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning, May 8, 2019.
Marie was employed at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital outpatients’ department for 29 years, retiring in 1997. She was a valued member of the community and always available to help others. Marie’s selfless service to the community extended far beyond the hospital. She was looked upon as a community nurse, taxi driver, caregiver and dear friend. Her altruism continued right up to her passing. A special mention of dear friend Verna Gillis. She has always been 'there' for Marie. It would be remiss not to mention the 'Golden Girls'. A unique group of friends with whom she enjoyed so many good times.
She was predeceased by Mabel and Angus MacKinnon; brothers, John R., Alexander, Bede, and Hector; sisters, Jessie and Germaine.
Marie is survived by her long-time companion, Zelda Bushell; beloved dog, Jake; brother, Harold, of Richmond, B.C.; several nephews and nieces including her cherished niece, Wanda O’Brien (Mervin) of Guelph, Ont. whom she visited every summer.
Respecting Marie’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. There will be no visitation or funeral service. A private burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Victoria.
