Lil Barker

Lilla (Lil) Barker, August 8, 1921 - May 30, 2011, It is with saddened hearts the family of Lilla Barker announces that our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie and friend passed away, peacefully with her family by her side. Predeceased by her parents Ana Matilda and Peter Erickson, 5 brothers and 2 sisters, she will be greatly missed by Harvey, her husband of 65 years; daughter Joan (Don), of Maple Ridge, BC; son Harvey Jr. (Cecile), of Swift Current; daughter Sus (Kevin), of Elrose; son Gary (Loretta), of Calgary, AB; her 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Lil was born in Hardy Saskatchewan in1921 to Peter and “Tilly” Erickson and moved to Regina as a young girl where she continued her schooling. She worked as a stenographer/bookkeeper at Eilers Jewellers where she met Harvey Barker who became her husband of nearly 66 years. Lil, Harvey and their family moved to Swift Current in 1967 to open Barkers Jewellery which they operated together until Harvey’s retirement in 1990. She took pride in the family business and loved working and meeting the public so much that she continued on until 2009. In 1977 Lil and Harvey moved onto a farm 5 miles east of Swift Current where they had a huge garden, ran cattle and raised fowl. She loved her “cherished” home on the farm which was a place all her family could be together. The family had many, many, many great memories there and it was very sad for Lil when they sold the farm and moved into Swift Current in 2009. Lil's greatest passions were working in Barker’s Jewellery, gardening, baking, knitting and having her children and their families together around her. We miss you Mom and your greatest legacies are love, beautiful treasured memories and the appreciation of family.
As per Lil’s request there is not a funeral service. In lieu of flowers a donation in Lil's name can be made to the Kidney Association at #1 – 2217 Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7L 6A8.
