ELKINGTON: Charles Henry Elkington of Swift Current Sask. passed away on Monday, May 30, 2011 Charles Henry Elkington (Harry) at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current at the age of 83. Harry was born in Aneroid Sask. on Oct 30, 1927 to John Norman Waverly Elkington and Bertha Mary (Stott) Elkington. Harry's family moved to Kingston Ont. where he attended Grades 1 and 2. They then moved to Cupar, Saskatchewan where he completed his high school education in 1945. Harry went on to attend the University of Regina and Normal School in Moose Jaw Sask. where he obtained a Teachers Certificate. He began his teaching career in rural Saskatchewan. Harry decided to go back to school attending the University of Saskatoon where Harry graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education. Harry took a teaching position in Hudson Bay where he met a young nurse, Mabel Wishlow. They were married in Canora, Sask. in 1953. Harry and Mabel moved to Lanigan. It was in Lanigan that their two sons, John Patrick and Ronald James were born in 1954 and 1955. Harry taught school in Lanigan (3 yrs) Foam Lake (2 yrs) Wilkie (5 yrs) Tompkins (7 yrs as Principal). In 1969 the Elkingtons' moved to Gull Lake Sask. where Harry retired from teaching in 1984. Throughout his career Harry was very involved with the Saskatchewan Teacher's Federation. He was also a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge. He also enjoyed singing in various choirs and playing the piano. After Mabel's passed on, Harry moved to Swift Current to be closer to his grand children. Harry is survived by his two sons, Patrick (Dianne) and Ron (Eileen), and grandchildren Kim and Greg. Harry was predeceased by his wife Mabel (1991), mother (1989), father (1959) and sisters Dorothy (2002) and Kathleen (2006). His Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday June 3rd 2011 in the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home. Harry's last resting place will be next to his wife Mabel in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current Sask. Donations may be made in Harry's memory to the Masonic Education Fund.
