It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Julia Ann (Dixon) Gwynn at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour on June 5, 2011.
Born at South Harbour, N.S., Dec. 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Alex L. and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Dixon.
Mom was a dedicated, caring and compassionate wife and mother. She was a homemaker all her life devoted to raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom spent her leisure time enjoying her favourite pastime quilting and knitting, which she was very talented at. She was also an avid card player, particularly many great games of 58.
She loved being outdoors tending to her plants, picking berries and spending time at her and Dad’s favourite place, Black Brook.
Mom is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Alex) MacEachern, Baddeck, Rose Rambeau, Smelt Brook, Myrtle (Vince) Galati, Ontario, Colleen (Cecil) Dunphy, Ingonish, Jacqueline (Max) Fraser, Middle River; son, Bernard (Giselle) Gwynn, South Harbour; daughter-in-law, Vera Gwynn; son-in-law, Ralph Williams.
Nanny also leaves behind 30 loving grandchildren, 39 adorable great-grandchildren; brothers, Bart Dixon, Ontario, and Fr. Omar Dixon, SFM, Brazil; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, Anthony Paul Gwynn (2001), her daughter, Margaret, her son, Clifford, brothers, Thomas and James, a sister in infancy, and son-in-law, Peter Rambeau.
In honoring Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish Church, Dingwall on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. Everyone is welcome to join us for a reception at the church following the service. Private interment in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highland Manor or Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour.
