Mary Ann Roberts, 87 of Sydney, passed away peacefully at the Cove Guest Home on Friday May 24, 2019. Born in Bell Moreal, Richmond County, Mary was the daughter of the late Hugh and Catherine (MacRae) MacDonnell.
Mary lived most of her life in Sydney, with short stays in L’Ardoise, Richmond County, and Sept - Isles, Quebec. In addition to being a homemaker, Mary worked at Crowells, Sydney and other local businesses. Areas of enjoyment including reading, family, entertaining friends and relatives, and designing and crafting wedding dresses.
Her pose, smile, compassion, laughter, strength and support were a few of her many positive attributes. Mary touched many people’s lives, especially during times of distress and the world was a better place for it.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, John of 59 years; her adoring daughter, Ann Marie, Sydney; son, John, New Glasgow; nieces, Cheryl (Mike) St. John, Sydney, Carol Ann (Johnny) Ratchford, Sydney, Sydney, Elizabeth Ann (George) Ferris, Sydney, Barbara Jean, Edmonton, Colleen, Halifax, Mary Rose, Sydney, Lydia Louise, Ottawa; nephew, Robert (Jackie) Slade; grandnieces and grandnephews. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Joey (Ronnie) Matheson, Sydney and Layla, Glace Bay; brothers-in-law, Billy, Halifax and Angus (Maria), Spain; nieces and nephews, including, Joanne, Ottawa, Cathy, California, Danielle, Spain, Sharon, Glace Bay, James, Sydney, Kevin, Glace Bay, Richard, Ottawa and Louis, Spain.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Janette, Lydia and Junie; brothers, James and Hughie.
The family greatly appreciates the care provided to Mary by her second family, the staff of the Cove Guest Home, and the Nurses and Doctors at the CBRH.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 1 - 2 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral will take place at 2 p.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Cove Guest Home or the An Cala (Palliative Care Unit) at the CBRH.
