It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louis ‘Louie’ MacKay of Glace Bay. Louie passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Neil and Dora May (Pickston) MacKay. Louie was a former member of St. Eugene’s Church in Dominion.
In his early years, Louie was employed with the street department in Dominion and also was a construction worker. He loved his volunteer work with St. Eugene’s Church. In his later years, Louie enjoyed bowling, playing cards and time spent with his large family. Louie never missed a family get together.
Louie will be sadly missed by daughters, Mary (Nelson) MacDonald, Annie (John) Anjonie, Shirley (Donald) Boutilier, Donelda (Greg) Boutilier, Yvonne (Harold) Clark, Dorothy Dean, Roseann MacNeil, all of Glace Bay, Cecilia (Orlando) Boutilier, Sydney, Doreen (Michael) Gavin, PEI, sons, Neil, Daniel Joseph, at home, Charles (Duane) Daniel (Doloris), Steven (Norma), Thomas (Charlotte), Michael, all of Glace Bay, Kevin (Wanda), Sydney and John Thomas, Ont.; sisters, June and Joan. Also surviving are 40 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; several great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his family, he was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn (MacNeil); granddaughter, Sarah Ann Anjonie; great-grandson, Brent Boutilier; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Cassidy and niece, Angelina Dewitte; brothers, Allie, John; sisters, Ann and Cecelia.
Visitation for Louie MacKay will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2011 in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
