STELLARTON – Harry Joseph Cyr, age 88, of Riverbank Street, Stellarton, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in the QEII VG Site, Halifax.
Born in Westville, he was a son of the late John (Jack) and Margaret (Bredeau) Cyr.
Harry was a resident of Stellarton for the past 45 years. He worked as a welder most of his working life having retired from I. Matheson and Co. Harry was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Br. #28 Royal Canadian Legion, Stellarton. He enjoyed playing darts, fishing and hunting.
Harry was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are a son, David (Charlene) Cyr, Eastern Passage; daughters, Beverly (Charles) d’Entremont, Abercrombie; Susan (Bill) Halliday, Saltsprings, Pictou Co.; 11 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Harry was predeceased by his wife the former Mary Gaudet; a son James and two children in infancy; brothers, Albert Cyr and Dave Cyr; sisters: Beatrice (Hughie) MacDonald, Laura (Donald) MacKinnon, Jean (Laurie) MacKenzie.
His remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, 18 Acadia Ave., Stellarton, for visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m. with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Donations in memory of Harry may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
