It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arnold Austin Fillmore of Fredericton, N.B., husband of Lee Fillmore, which occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 16, 1928, in Sackville, N.B., he was the son of the late Frank and Lona (Crossman) Fillmore.
Arnold was predeceased by a son Gary, and by brothers Ken and Lincoln, and sister Ruby Murray. Arnold is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lee (Tremblay); sons, Michael (Evelyn), David (Diane); daughters, Linda (Michel) Bertrand, Diana (Tom) O’Blenis; as well as eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Arnold is also survived by his siblings, Jennie (Ken) Wheaton, Faye (Raymond) Tremblay, Alice Fraser, Frances (Leo Poirier) Beale and Billy ( June) Fillmore. Arnold graduated from Mount Allison University in Sackville and then began his 35-year career working with Swift Canadian. Upon retiring from Swifts, Arnold ventured forth on a new career with Wawanesa Life Insurance Company, doing what he loved to do best – meeting people, helping others, and travelling the province in the company of his wife.
Arnold was a long-time member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church, where he was an active participant of the Teller Committee and Board of Deacons. Arnold was a man of broad interests and that included: attaining the rank of Major in the 1RNBR(Militia), being the Commanding Officer of the 242 Army Cadets, participating as a long-time member of United Commercial Travellers and the Elm Tree Square Dance Club, planting and tending his garden, curling and golfing on a variety of teams.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate his life was held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Grace Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Hapeman and Rev. Bob Malcolm officiating. Interment will take place in Douglas Rural Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.
