Bren hit life running in 1945 and left us again running through Pippy Park with his Tely 10 buddies this past week. He was the ultimate brother, uncle, friend, teacher and mentor to so many and we are absolutely heartbroken that he should leave this wonderful life so early. They must have needed another Saint in Heaven and based on his time with us, they’ll sure get a full days work out of our Bren.
The eldest of 10, Bren led a busy life with his teaching, running, photography and reading, and of course his vocation, but he was always there for other things, particularly home cooked meals and the multitude of family gatherings both inside and outside the City. He hiked and swam, danced and sang, and in the true Healy fashion, was game for most anything. We will always remember our times together.
Funeral arrangements by Caul’s with visitation at Mount St. Francis, 4 Merrymeeting Road on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, September 7 at 10 a.m. from the Basilica, with burial to follow at Belvedere Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Brendan Healy Scholarship Fund, c/o Bank of Montreal, 430 Topsail Rd., St. John’s, A1E 4N1. This fund is established in his memory to immortalize the work he did and to encourage and reward the efforts of the students he cared for so deeply.
