Edna Hambleton

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Edna Jean (Wood) Hambleton. Edna was a kind and generous soul, loved dearly by family and friends. She was born in her family home in Eden Lake, December 5, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Alexander and Emily Matilda (Clyburne) Wood. Edna moved to New Glasgow as a young woman to work at Dobson’s Book Store for 10 years before Marrying and moving to Springville to raise her family. Edna also attended evening classes for 3 years while caring for her family to obtain an office management and accounting certification to manage the family Pluming and Heating Contracting business. Edna devoted her life to her family, home and community in Springville for 45 years before moving to NewGlasgow briefly then to Valley View Villa where she has resided for more than 8 years.

Edna was an adoring mother to her children and wife to her husband John. She loved nature, walking her dogs and held such pride in her beautiful flower gardens. She was admired for her generosity and opened her home to welcome all. Her kindness and patience touched many throughout her life.

Edna was a member of the Springville Presbyterian Church, Women’s Institute, Ladies Aid and MacDonald Rebekah Lodge Sunny Brae.

Edna was predeceased by husband John, son Lloyd Wood, infant brother George Douglas, Father Dan A, mother Matilda, step daughter Karen, brother Fred Wood and sister Jessie Kaiser

Survived by her children Heather (Jack) MacIvor, Cindy (Randy) Pitts, sister Marjorie Polley and sister in law Margaret (Peggy) Wood. Grand children Melanie, Ryan, Kevin, Maria and Marcus Step grandchildren Jason, Oliver, Jacy and Kaela.

A graveside service was held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019 in the Springville Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Valley View Villa Recreation Fund.
