Douglas McNeil Wornell, 99, Harbourview Drive, Sydney, passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2009, at the An Cala Unit in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Greens Pond, Nfld., he was the son of the late Edmund and Jessie (Lush) Wornell.
Douglas retired from the Bank of NS after 42 years of service. He was a member and past president of Rotary Club of Sydney, and past chair of the United Way of Cape Breton. He was a member and elder of First United Church, Sydney. He was a past Commodore of the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; daughter, Linda (Robert) Cooper, Oakville, ON; son, Stuart, Chester, NS and four grandchildren, Steven, Linda, Barbara,and Heather, three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Diana, and Madison.
Douglas was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (White); one sister, Jean; three brothers, Eldon, Abel and Ted.
Visitation will be held on Sunday 2-4 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday 11 a.m. with Rev. Wade Reppert officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
