The Cox family is sad to announce that John Victor Cox, who was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on September 14, 1927, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2009 at the West Parry Sound Health Centre. He was surrounded in love by his family.
John leaves his wife, Joan Patricia (Heisler) Cox and his four sons: Johnnie and his wife Michelle (Babin) and their children Johnnie, James, Christopher, Danny and David; David and his wife Christina (Thompson) and their children Sarah, Anna, Laura, and Sean; Michael Cox and his wife Elizabeth (Jarrett) and their children Rachel, Julia and Andrew; Peter and his wife Tara (Trodden) and their children Joey, Maggie and Thomas.
John grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan working on Model T Fords in his spare time and working summers on the family farm. He had a wonderful childhood.
His life was forever changed when he met a beautiful nurse, Joan Patricia Heisler, in 1948. They married in 1952 and made their dreams come true. Together they gave their four boys a magical childhood.
A graduate in Commerce from the University of Manitoba, John had a distinguished career as Marketing Manager for CGE in Canada, President of Proctor Silex and President of Cashway Lumber. In 1983, John started a family business with his sons which continues to this day. John also served two terms as Reeve of the Township of the Archipelago in the 1980’s. He had the love and the support of his wife Joan throughout his business career.
Although John’s business accomplishments were tremendous, his love and focus was always his family. He was a skier, hockey player, swimmer, pilot, boat captain, scuba diver, tennis player, author, storyteller and altogether a truly amazing man. John recently contributed two articles to the Moose Jaw Times, a story of the “Model T” and his stories as a sleeping car conductor. John loved Moose Jaw. This past summer Johnnie, Michelle and their 5 boys visited Moose Jaw and loved it.
John had a fulfilled and truly inspirational life. He was an incredible father and a loyal, loving, and dedicated husband to Joan. His grandchildren adore him.
