It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Janis Delores Heffernan, on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, with her family at her side.
Janis was born in Reserve Mines, N.S., on April 27, 1939, to parents, Allan McMullin and Remigus (Marsh) McMullin.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish Church, New Victoria.
She always enjoyed playing her favourite game of cards, tarabish, every Friday evening with her family members and many friends. She always extended a witty and quick sense of humour, to all who came in contact with her and she made each person feel special and loved. She was also known to occasionally enjoy a good visit to the Sydney Casino!
Janis is survived by her daughters, Verna (Bo) Gillis, Karen (Lloyd Hutchison), Janis (David) Fiore, all of New Victoria, and Joan, at home; her son, Jimmy (Jennifer) and daughter-in-law, Tracy, both of New Waterford; and a sister-in-law, Agnes McMullin, Westmount. Also surviving are her brother, Sonny (Lorraine) McMullin, Glace Bay; and her sisters, Polly Tighe, New Victoria, Colleen (Murray) Billard, Louisbourg, Alene Burchell and Verna (Steve) Petrie, New Waterford, Leone (Joe) Campbell, Velma (Jimmy) Dawson and Peggy Currie, all from Reserve Mines, N.S. Janis is survived by her 10 precious grandchildren, Adam, Joan-Marie, James, Melissa, Samantha, Sara, Andie, Brett, Lexi and Jeremy and three very special great-grandchildren, Ethan, Keigan and Logan.
Janis was predeceased by her husband, James Heffernan in 1993, a son, Tommy, both her parents, three sisters, Audrie, Lorraine and Lila and by one brother, Billy.
There will be no visitation by request of the family. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, N.S.
