Dora Seymour
SEYMOUR, DORA H. - The family of Dora Seymour wish to announce her passing on June 9th, 2011 at her residence, Thomas Hall on Rainsford Lane. She was born at home in Estey’s Bridge on December 24th, 1912. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Harry and Jean (Barnet) Seymour; her sister, Daisy B. Rodger; and two brothers, Stuart W. Seymour and W. Sterling Seymour. She is survived by three nephews, David Rodger (Pat), Collingwood, Ontario, W. Harry Seymour (Leslie), Fredericton and David Seymour (Pat), Grande Prairie, Alberta; and two nieces, Jean Squires (Bob), Bear Island and Judith Seymour, Estey’s Bridge. Dora received her early education in the one room school at Estey’s Bridge and went on to graduate from Business College in Fredericton. She then moved to Montreal and graduated from a course in what was called practical nursing at that time. She stayed in Montreal and worked in this field during World War II. Following the war she moved to Cowansville, Quebec where she worked in the office of Barker Tile, a job that she held until her retirement in the early 1970’s. Following her retirement Dora decided to leave Cowansville and return “home” to enjoy her leisure years in the Fredericton area. She spent time gardening and discovered that she had a talent for painting as well. She spent many hours quilting and produced some beautiful quilts. Dora was a faithful member of the United Church of Canada and supported her church in many ways. She was a member of Session as well as the treasurer in Cowansville for many years. She was a member of the UCW. In addition, she is a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had a life long love of animals and devoted much of her time in retirement to fundraisers for the local SPCA. For those of who wish to honor our aunt with a gift, please consider the SPCA, the Seymour Memorial Cemetery or the charity of your choice.
There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held at Wilmot United Church on Tuesday, June 14th, 2011 at 2 pm with Rev. Joanne Barr officiating. Interment will be in the Seymour Memorial Cemetery on the Kingsley Road. Online condolences can be made at www.mcadamsfh.com, 458-9170.
