Iona Annie Zabolotney
Sunday, June 5, 1921 - Thursday, June 9, 2011
Annie Zabolotney, beloved wife of the late James Zabolotney, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the age of 90 years. Annie leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Melvin James (Eleanor) and Ralph Dean (Janette); grandchildren, Stacey (Bonne), Jayda (Wade), Sasha (Mark), Beverly (Rod), Chanda (Shawn), LeAnn (Scott); great-grandchildren, Anya, Eleandra, Spencer, Ava, Annika, Blake, Grace, Zay, Zayden, Alisa, Xavier and Ryker. She is also survived by her siblings, Lena (Connie) Popescul, Nick (Joyce) Ionel, Alex Ionel and Flora (Lou) Lemay as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Zabolotney; parents, Ispas and Miranda (nee Andrie) Ionel; brothers, John Ionel, Sager Ionel and George Ionel; sisters, Carolina Zarembo and Sarah Reamer. Annie was born in Regina, SK., on June 5, 1921, and raised in the Middle Valley School District. She was baptized Greek Orthodox and in later years attended Ormiston Baptist Church. She always stayed true to her Greek Orthodox history, celebrating and sharing her traditions with her family. Annie married James Zabolotney on March 22, 1942. She dedicated her life to being a devoted wife and mother to James and her boys. Home life kept her busy as she always ensured there was a home cooked meal for family and friends alike. Whatever she involved herself in, it was always evident that her “special touch” was present! Through her cooking, baking, the house, flowers and the garden, her impeccable taste was present. Annie ensured that she was always looking her best and kept very busy socializing with her many friends (ever the premier host!) She made the most of life, whether enjoying a visit with everyone down at the curling club, taking a Sunday drive or going on an ocean cruise! More than anything, family will always remember how Annie turned every milestone into a memorable occasion. A birth, baptism, confirmation, graduation, birthday, wedding or anniversary...it didn’t matter. Annie ensured that they were all celebrated properly! While she remained ever devoted to her family, she was always very active as a member of the Crane Valley 49’ers, Ormiston Ladies Club and the Baptist Ladies Group. She will be dearly missed. Visitation for family and friends will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel, on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, starting one hour prior to Vigil Prayers and on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, starting one hour prior to the Funeral Mass. The Vigil Prayers will be recited at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Chapel on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Father Cosmin Sico Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, 279 3rd Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8. In living memory of Annie, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
