A. Christine ‘Chris’ Brown, 90, of Port Morien and formerly of Sherwood, P.E.I., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Chris was the daughter of the late Dan and Margaret (Smith) Campbell.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school and she was a member of the choir. In later years she was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church, Charlottetown, and was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge, Port Morien. Chris worked for a number of years with Eaton’s in Glace Bay and Montreal.
She is survived by her sister, Lorna MacDonald and nieces, Marion and Katherine, Port Morien, with whom she resided when she moved back to Cape Breton prior to requiring long-term care. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Mildred and Lynetta Brown; brother-in-law, William MacAulay; another niece and nephews.
Chris was predeceased by her husband, George W. Brown, sisters, Katherine Campbell, Annie MacAulay, brothers, Hugh Campbell, John A. Campbell and two brothers in infancy and also by sisters-in-law, Rhoda Brown, Grace Campbell, Ethel Campbell and brother-in-law, Philip MacDonald.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A memorial service will be held at Victoria Presbyterian Church, Birch Grove, Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Black Brook Cemetery, Port Morien.
Family flowers only. Donations in Chris’s memory may be made to Victoria Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
