It is with great sadness that the family of the late Karen Fern Decker announce her passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on June 14, 2011, at the age of 49 years, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family, her loving fiancé, Brian Hynes, her devoted sister Elaine and her lifetime friend, Michelle Brenton. Karen leaves to mourn her cherished daughter, Terri-Lynn (Mike) of St. John’s and her beloved granddaughter, Mya, of St. John’s, the lights of her life; her parents, Selma and Frank Decker of Stephenville; one devoted brother, Robert of Stephenville and her sisters Elaine and Linda, both of Stephenville; her grandmother, Nora Hewitt of Stephenville who truly adored her throughout her life; extended family, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews; aggrieved family of her fiancé, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Hynes and Brian’s son Cody; also a large circle of friends and acquaintances who had the joy of working and enjoying life with her at Abitibi Price in Stephenville and Grand Falls; her recent working peers at Canada Post in Stephenville. She was predeceased by her grandparents Brigadier Reuben and Lillian Decker and her grandfather Garfield Hewitt. Karen was very devoted to her career and family. Her jovial personality, fun loving disposition, her wit and humour is a treasured gift to all who knew her. Cremation has taken place and friends may call at Russell’s Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, June 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Hillview Avenue, Stephenville with Rev. Canon Dawn Barrett officiating. Interment to follow at the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway, Stephenville. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
