Born Sept. 16, 1918, in North Sydney, a resident of Bras d’Or, Creighton was predeceased by loving wife Melita (DuGas).
He is survived by sons, Eric (Paula), Tampa, Florida, and Hal (Candis and children, Brenan and Alana), Fletcher’s Lake, N.S.
The son of the late George and Jenny (Dicks) Bungay, Creighton, the oldest of 13, is survived by brothers George, North Sydney, and Reginald, Little Pond, and sisters Mary (Mrs. Lauchie Stubbert), Alder Point, Sadie (Mrs. James Roland), Alder Point, and Joyce Mulley, Florence. He will be deeply missed by companion, Helen MacNeil.
Creighton was predeceased by brothers William, Clyde, Murray, Leo, and sisters Susan (Mrs. Gus Pero), Vera (Mrs. Tom Riggs) and Cavell.
A proud veteran of the Second World War, Creighton served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy, and was ‘Mentioned in Dispatches’ for Distinguished Service by King George VI. He was a member of the Cape Breton Naval Veterans Association, a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 83, and also served 16 years leading young men with the Boy Scouts of Canada. A carpenter by trade, Creighton was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners.
Visitations will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. Funeral mass take place at St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point, Saturday, 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 83 in Florence.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harbour View Hospital, Sydney Mines or a charity of your choice.
