Passed in: Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: June 10th, 2011
It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of our Mom and Nanie, Joan Katherine Lindsey in her 78th year, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer, on Friday, June 10th, 2011 at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice in Kamloops British Columbia.
Joan is survived by her son Charles Lindsey, her three daughters and families, Sherry and Brian Taylor, Shelly Lindsey, Joanne (Michel) Lindsey, as well as her two grandchildren, Darrell Fehr and Lori (Mike) Maloney.
Joan is also survived by her two sisters, Shirley Baker and Beverly Sherk.
Joan was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Charles Edgar Lindsey in 1988.
Mom was born on November 28, 1932. She met Dad and married when she was seventeen. They had four children, Sherry, Charles, Shelly and Joanne.
Mom worked side by side in their trucking business. She was Dad's bookkeeper, parts runner, financial adviser and best friend. Their relationship provided us all with an example of what a relationship between two people in love could be. They were truly meant for each other.
We moved to many communities throughout B.C. for the business, which Mom always turned into adventures for the family, ensuring they were great experiences and enjoyable times. During their time in the North they met many special people, ultimately becoming life-long friends.
Mom was always a strong independent woman, a great example for us kids, showing us how we should live our lives, with compassion for others while teaching us to respect ourselves as well. Character traits, that were refined playing for a local women's hockey team as a young girl.
Mom's love for her flowers was only surpassed by her love for her family. She was always supportive to us all, a great listener and advisor, truly the anchor of our family.
The last few years, Mom experienced many health problems but fought them bravely. She was not one to burden others with what she was going through. She fought her illness the way she lived her life, with dignity and determination.
Now sorrow consumes us because you are gone but fond memories of you sooth our grieving hearts, for we know our separation is only brief. Until we are united again we will miss you.
Special Thanks to Dr. Stefanyk and Sandy and all of the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice. Our family is tremendously grateful for the loving support and care Mom received while with you. We cannot thank everyone enough.
At Mom's request, there will be no formal service. However, the family will spread Mom's ashes in a place special to her.
Should friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowdon Memorial Hospice located at 72 Whiteshield Crescent South, Kamloops, BC V2E 2S9.
