It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and sister, Olive Turnbull, on Sept. 5, 2009, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late James and Veronica (Gardiner) MacPherson.
Olive was a member of St. Agnes parish, New Waterford. She, at one time, enjoyed playing darts and bowling. Olive was a wonderful, loving lady with a great sense of humour who also enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home on James Street. She would provide a variety of food and had dart boards set up throughout the house. On some occasions, she would have a live band play at the gatherings. Olive was a person who truly loved life to the fullest.
Surviving are sons, James (Willena), New Waterford, Rodney (Minna), South Korea; brother, Malcolm Gardiner, Glace Bay; sisters, Rhodena Ling, Veronica ‘Goo’ Rigby, both of New Waterford, Sissy Henry, Theresa Moore, both of Sydney; three grandchildren, Ryan, Jessie and Becky, all of Ontario; a special companion, her dog, Cuddles.
Olive was predeceased by her husband Donnie, sons, John David, in infancy, and Joey, daughter, Veronica Dolly, brother, James ‘Buddy’ Gardiner, sisters, Martha MacLean, Annie Burke and Eileen Carrigan.
There will be no visitation by request of the family. A funeral mass to celebrate Olive’s life will be held Friday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
