Edith Stewart
STEWART, EDITH G. - It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Edith G. Stewart, loving wife of the late Ernest W. Stewart, which occurred at the Loch Lomond Villa on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Born 1923 in Apple River, Cumberland Co., NS, she was raised in Plaster Rock, NB, before moving to Saint John in the early 1950’s. She was the daughter of the late Stuart and Carrie (Copp) Atkinson. Edith was a member of Garnett Settlement Christian Church and Tabernacle Baptist Church. She taught for 30 years for various schools including Otter Lake, Garnett Settlement, Golden Grove and Loch Lomond Schools. Edith was a member of the Red Hatters, life long member and volunteer of the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, a volunteer of Canadian Blood Services as well as past president of United Baptist Women’s Mission and the New Brunswick Teachers Association and past treasurer of Millidgeville Seniors Club. She is survived by her son Paul (Deborah) of Garnett Settlement and daughter Mary (Brad) Wilbur of Centralia, Missouri; grandchildren Matthew Stewart of Fort Resolution, NWT and Shauna Stewart of Saint John, Cheralee and Kris Von Gunten both of Lacombe, AB, Kaitlin and Lucas Wilbur of Centralia, Missouri; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road. Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Sunday, June 19th and Monday, June 20th, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday June 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Thomas Garnett Cemetery, Garnett Settlement.
