Michael Austin MacCormick, 66, of Columbia Street, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Austin and Clara (Currie) MacCormick.
He was a member of St. Theresa’s parish, Sydney. Mike retired after 31 years at Sydney Steel and continued to work as a crane operator with Miller Rentals for 10 more years. He was a member of Local 1064 Steelworker’s Union.
Mike is survived by his sister, Sheila (Jim) Bates, Sydney; and brothers, John (Dolores), New Brunswick, and Dave, Halifax, as well as many special nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He will be missed by his numerous friends, neighbours and co-workers; and by his many special friends and neighbours from Benacadie Pond and surrounding area.
Visitation for Mr. MacCormick will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at St. Theresa’s Church at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
