Jean Samson

Jean Samson, 84, New Glasgow, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the
Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow.
Born in Yugoslavia, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Majcan.
Jean came to Nova Scotia when she was five years old with her mother and
sister on the ship Ausonian, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax on January 10,
1932. Jean was one of five children joining August, Anthony, Ernest, and
Katherine.
Jean studied hair dressing at vocational school and eventually went on to
open her own salon and run a successful business until her retirement in the
late eighties. Jean was an avid dart player and was a member of a number of
clubs in the New Glasgow. Jean was quite active in making a variety of
crafts for friends and relatives.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Charles Samson, her son James (Jimmy),
her brother August Majcan (Bonavista, NFLD) and sister Katherine (Halifax).
She will be sadly missed by daughter Anna Taylor (nee Samson) (Murray), Lantz,
grandsons Scott Taylor (Onoway, AB) and James Taylor (Truro, NS),
daughter-in-law Nancy Samson, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation by family request. Cremation has taken place and
a private memorial service will be held at a later date with internment at
Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of
Nova Scotia.
