It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and brother, Kenneth Frank Hodder, 77, resident of Main Street, Sydney Mines, formerly of North Sydney, on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Burin, Newfoundland, he was a son of Alice (Hines) Hodder of Grand Bank, Newfoundland, and of the late Samuel Hodder.
Ken worked for many years as a fisherman and later as a chef, aboard the National Sea Products vessels. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church and loved spending time with his large family.
Surviving besides his mother, is his wife, Annie (Mercer) Hodder, resident of the Northside Guest Home; his children, Samuel (Noelle) Hodder, Sydney Mines, Louise (Albert) Harvey, Ferry Land, N.L., Norm (Paula) Hodder, Halifax, Stanley Hodder (Tracey Gibson), Kentville, Doreen Skinner (Frank), Burgeo, Douglas (Susan) Hodder, North Sydney, Edward Hodder, St. John’s, N.L.; grandchildren, Jason, Bobby, Blair, Ryan, Byron, Andrew, Edward, Holly Ann, Francine, Tiffany, Angel, April, Julia, Sarah, Nicole and Rachel, also a number of great-grandchildren; brothers, Levi (Betty) Hodder, North Sydney, Maxwell (Jane), Bob (Irene) and Randy (Helen) Hodder; sisters, Madeline (Edgar) Broydell, Jean (Alvin) Taylor, Patsy Grandy, Fay (Cyril) Banfield and Mary Hodder, all of Newfoundland.
He was predeceased by sons, Gerald and John Hodder, daughter, Joan Hodder, brothers, Tom and Sam Hodder.
Visitation for Ken will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton.
