Wightman - Leslie Philip, passed away at the Palliser Regional Care Center in Swift Current, SK on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at the age 83 years. Leslie grew up in the Fox district south of Waldeck, SK where he attended Fox school and later Beatty Collegiate in Swift Current. He was a true farmer until he retired in 1997. He was always reminiscing about life on the farm and things that occurred when he was growing up there. Les had various jobs off the farm in the off-season. They included the CPR, Dyck's Transfer, Peterson Construction, The Citizens Rink, McIntosh Furniture as well as being in business with his brother Gordon and Frank Smith. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Vielda, daughter Cheryl and Wes Fehr, daughter-in-law Valerie Wightman; Cheryl and Wes' family, Leigh Fehr-Little and Chris Little (Gabrielle and Graceon) of Medicine Hat, AB, Kristie and Brent Mackie (Jack and Wyatt) of Niverville, MB, Jennifer Fehr (Josh) of Saskatoon, SK and James and Megan Fehr of Medicine Hat, AB; Darryl and Valerie's family, Nadine and Len McGean (Caitlin) of Sherwood Park, AB, Sabrina and Bryan Bradshaw (Keith) of Langley, BC. He is also survived by his brother Alfred Wightman, sisters Ellen Studer and Joyce Jensen, brother-in-law Carl Lawless, sister-in-law Glenna Cory as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Darryl on March 11, 2009, his mother Annie in 1942 and his father James in 1960, brothers Gordon and Lewis Wightman and Harry Francis, infant sister Phyllis, sisters Violet Carleton and Margaret Lawless, his in-laws Ahlburn and Irene Gropp, Ken and Betty Gropp, Art and Ardeen Smith and Lawrence Cory. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, September 14 at 2:00 PM from the Eastside Church of God, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Kevin Snyder officiating. An Interment Service followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital for their kindness and care and also for the special care from the staff at the Palliser Regional Care Center. Thanks to Dr. Gatzke and Dr. Johnson and Dr Lee and the staff at the Associated Medical Clinic. A special thanks to Dr. Ron Young for 45 years of family care. Thanks to Pastor Kevin for his connection with Les during his illness and for the visitors from the Eastside Church of God. Thanks to Warren's Funeral Home for being so caring. Vi, Cheryl and Wes want to acknowledge the Wightman family for their many caring visits and the time they spent with Les while in the hospital and at the Palliser.
