SAUNDERS, ANNA (McALLISTER) - November 26, 1919 - June 25, 2011 - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anna (McAllister) Saunders at the York Care Centre, Fredericton, N.B. on June 25th, 2011. She was surrounded by her family. She is mourned by her sons, John McAllister (Barbara) of Amherst, N.S, Gary McAllister (Judy) of Green Mountain and Upper Kingsclear, N.B. and daughter Joanne Faulkner (Ron) of Prince William, N.B. Survived by her grandchildren, Jordan McAllister, Jonathan McAllister (Theresa), Ross Faulkner, (Lisa), Karen Lavigne, (Kevin) and Keith Faulkner. Also survived by great grandchildren, Shannon Gardner (Dwayne), Justin Faulkner, Jace and Reid McAllister, Brad Lavigne, and Karen MacKinnon. Also survived by great –great grandchildren Ceirra and Chantal Gardner. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Nora Henderson and Grace Henderson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by her first husband, Cecil McAllister in 1968, and her second husband, Edward B. Saunders in 2010. Predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey (Delia), Russell (Myrtle and Della), J Monty, and Hartman Henderson. Anna was born in Houlton, Maine, on November 26, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Alfred Harvey Henderson, DDS and Harriett (Wismer) Henderson. She was raised in Debec, N.B. where she attended elementary school. She graduated from Fisher Memorial High School, Woodstock, N.B. in1936. Later she attended Carleton County Vocational School and graduated with a diploma in the Commercial Program becoming proficient in shorthand. During the war years she worked for CN Telegraph and was proficient in Morse Code working in N.B. and N.S. When Morse code was replaced with Teletype, Anna chose to decline the opportunity to retrain, choosing to stay home and raise a family. She worked briefly at the Whoa Daddy and the Cozy Cabins Restaurant. Following this, she was employed by Adjusters and Appraisers and later accepted a position with the Carleton County School Board Office where she worked until she retired in 1980. Anna was a long time member of the Brunswick Rebekah Lodge No 44, Woodstock, and in 1996 was recognized for 50 years service. She was an active member of the Woodstock United Baptist Church and participated in the Quilting Guild and Ladies Missionary Circle. She was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for several years. In later years she was a member of the Forever Young Club and enjoyed many activities with her best friend, Audrey Carmichael. Anna enjoyed playing the organ, knitting, quilting, playing scrabble, cooking, and enjoyed working in her yard. Anna is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation at The Culberson Funeral Home 188 Connell Street, Woodstock, New Brunswick on Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Funeral service to be held on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:00 p.m from The Culberson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Craig Woodcock officiating. Reception to follow at the Woodstock Baptist Church 694 Main Street, Woodstock followed by committal and interment at 4:30 p.m. at the McKenzie Corner United Baptist Cemetery.
