Mary Edna Brownell
BROWNELL, MARY EDNA (MacDONALD) - 1914 - 2011 - Edna Brownell wife of the late John W. Brownell passed away peacefully at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home, Moncton, NB on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the age of 97. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born in Sydney Mines, NS, she was the daughter of the late James and Catherine (Beaton) MacDonald. A graduate of the Sydney City Hospital in nursing and was a member of the hospital staff until enlisting in the Canadian Army Medical Corp. in 1944 as an Lt/Nursing Sister. A founding member of Mount Royal United Church and served on various committees during the earlier years of the church. Edna is survived by her daughter-in-law; Gloria Brownell of Charlottetown, PEI, niece; Marie-Louise MacDonald-Wilson (Jim) of Albert Bridge, NS, nephews; Kevin MacDonald of Fredericton, NB, Robert (Margaret) MacDonald of Manchester, NH, USA and Stephen (Inez) MacDonald of Halifax, NS. Besides her parents, husband John, Edna was predeceased by her son; James Murray, three brothers; Duncan and Stanley both of Sydney, NS, Clare of Fredericton, NB.
In keeping with Edna’s wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at Fair haven Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Brett Anningson officiating. Burial will take place at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to Mount Royal United Church Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
