WOHLGEMUTH – Mrs. Vernita Gudrun Wohlgemuth (nee Hopni), 90 years of Naicam, SK and formerly of Moose Jaw and Swift Current passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Humboldt District Hospital. Vernita was born on July 8, 1919 in Wynyard, SK to Sigurdur and SIgurveig Vopni. She received her educatioin at Mimer and Kandahar Schools in the Kandahar area. On November 26, 1942, Vernita married Chester Wohlgemuth. In her younger years, Vernita worked as a telephone switchboard operator as well as on the family farm. Following her marriage, she stayed at home to raise their three sons and as they each had families of their own, she enjoyed helping with her grandchildren. Being skilled in sewing and knitting, she would also sell some of her creations for extra income. In the 1980’s, she began working part time at Fashion House of Shoes in Swift Current, where she worked until the store closed in the 1990’s. Although their family relocated often in the early years of their marriage, Vernita would often become involved in the local church ladies auxiliary and the curling club in their new community. Vernita was very proud of her family and extended family and was always interested in their lives and what they were doing. She spent many hours knitting, crocheting, taking care of her home and garden, cooking, baking and playing cards. She especially enjoyed a good game of cribbage with family and friends. She was an active curler until the late 1950’s and even after she gave up playing the game, she still followed it with great interest. Vernita will be lovingly remembered by her two children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Gerald (Judy) Wohlgemuth of Naicam and family, Karla Wohlgemuth of Saskatoon and Kori Wohlgemuth (fiancé, Sean Flint) of Regina; Darin (Roberta) Wohlgemuth of Moose Jaw and family, Amy (Mitch) Walz of Calgary and Darin Wohlgemuth of Moose Jaw; Wayne’s children, Sandra (Rick) Wensley of Calgary and children, Nicole, Rick and Kimberley and Stephen Wohlgemuth of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; daughter-in-law, Judy Wohlgemuth of Fort Saskatchewan; sister-in-law, Violet Vopni of Wynyard and numerous nieces and nephews.
