– After a battle with cancer, Fred passed away with dignity at the Miller Centre on Sunday, September 13, 2009, at the age of 73. Born on Bell Island on November 13, 1935, he is survived and dearly missed by his wife Marjolaine (Trempe) of St. John’s; his children: Paul (Elizabeth) of St. John’s, René (Patricia) and Debbie (William) of Ontario; the grandchildren who were the light of his life: Adam, Ella and Emmanuel; his siblings: Charlie (BC), Frank (and Donna of Shad Bay, Nova Scotia), Margaret (and Raymond Paré of Laval, Quebec), Bob (Marsden, Sask.); Edward (and Kay of Bell Island), Sylvia (and Dick of Surrey, BC), Naomi (and Norman of Big River, Sask), and special sister-in-law Louise (and Raymond Bouvrette of Laval, Quebec). Fred will also be missed by his other relations and the many friends he touched during his lifetime. Fred was predeceased by his parents Helen and Pierre, and by his brothers: William and Howard.
After a long career with Newfoundland Telephone, Fred lived to care for his wife and family and shared his time and talents with the congregation of St. Pius X Church, St. Bonaventure’s College, the Bell Aliant Pioneers, the Association for New Canadians, and many others.
Fred’s family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, and to the staff of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Clinic for their care and attention.
Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, on Thursday, September 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will follow at St. Pius X Church on Friday, September 18 at 9:30 a.m. Private interment will occur at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Newfoundland & Labrador, or to the St. Bonaventure’s Tuition Assistance Program.
