Phyllis Jean MacDonald, 88, of Halifax, died peacefully on July 2, 2011 at Drummond Hall, Parkland Estates.
Born in 1923, she was the daughter of Victor and Ethel Margeson.
Phyllis took an early and avid interest in the piano encouraged by her father and favourite uncle Clyde. She pursued her love of music through University, completing her Bachelor of Music Degree at Dalhousie. In 1948 she met her future husband Al MacDonald. They were married in 1950. Soon sons Robert and David arrived and Phyllis taught piano part-time and devoted herself to her young family. She had a passion for curling and her drive and finesse as skip led her team representing the Halifax Curling Club to the Nova Scotia Championships in 1975. They won and she represented the province of Nova Scotia at the Canadian Womens’ Curling Championships. She later served as the President of her Club. Phyllis was an enthusiastic Bridge player and made life long friends at the Westmount Bridge Club. She will be fondly missed and will always be remembered as a warm, loving, and caring person. Her beautiful smile will never fade. We wish to thank each of the angels at Drummond Hall for the compassionate care that they provided.
Survived by sons Robert and David; brother Doug; sister Doris; grandchildren: Christopher, Allan and Simon and many nephews and nieces.
Predeceased by brothers Len and Ken; sister Ruth; husbands Al MacDonald and Alan Rowe.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 6th from 5-8 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home chapel, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9th in Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville, Pictou County N.S.
