Norman Embleton

EMBLETON, NORMAN VANCE - Norman V. Embleton, formerly of Dumfries, NB passed away July 5, 2011 at Dixon Lodge - York Manor. Born at Dumfries, NB on January 5, 1915, he was a son of the late William and Margaret (Vance) Embleton. Prior to his death, Norman was the oldest living member of St. Clement’s Anglican Church, Dumfries, where over the years he served as treasurer, chapel warden and parish warden. He was recognized for his dedication to the church in 2004. Norman attended Fredericton Business College. He served as tax collector for a number of years, was an original member of the Barony Cemetery Association and served many years as care taker of the Barony Cemetery. His service was marked in 2010 by the naming of the Norman V. Embleton Information Centre at the cemetery. Norman also served as treasurer for the local branch of the Canadian Bible Society and was a proud charter member of the Dumfries Volunteer Fire Department. Norman was employed for a number of years with Flewelling Funeral Home and will be remembered by many as the man who directed the parking of cars at funerals as well as at community suppers. He is survived by a daughter, Evelyn McEwen (Murray), Nackawic, NB; a son, David Embleton (Gloria), Fredericton, NB; a granddaughter, Kristin Gillis (Dan), Goose Bay, Labrador; a sister-in-law, Helen Stairs, Prince William, NB; a brother-in-law, Harry Rosborough (Florence), Prince William, NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Norman was predeceased by his wife, E. Isabell (Rosborough) Embleton in 1996.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Thursday evening, July 7, 2011 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. A private family funeral service will be held with The Rev’d Fr. Kevin Borthwick officiating. Interment will be at Barony Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations in memory of Norman, be made to the Barony Cemetery or Parish of Prince William Rectory Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice. The family will always be indebted to all staff members of Dixon Lodge - York Manor, for the concern, care and compassion shown Norman and the family during his stay there. www.flewellingswan.com
