Passed on: September 13th, 2009
She was our Mom and we loved her deeply.
Mariette Jeanne Desjardins Sirois was born August 21, 1919 in St. André de Kamouraska, Quebec. She overcame tuberculosis in her youth and married Roger Sirois in 1942. Mariette bore seven healthy children. She was a devoted mariner’s wife and a loving mother. She placed more value in enjoying a sunny afternoon, knitting or browsing a National Geographic magazine than in lining up the cups or dusting the deep corners of the family room. She volunteered for decades, first with the United Way and then with the Northside Guest Home.
Mariette enjoyed classical music and sang in the choir of Saint Joseph’s parish in North Sydney for many years, her creative outlet and spiritual haven. She knew how to make chicken salad out of chicken scratch and played bridge and solitaire until her end on September 13, 2009.
Mariette is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, André (Maisie Stacey), Jean-Marc (Linda Boulianne), Francis, Léopold (Joanne Brogan), Bernard (Mary Hick), Stella-Marie (Gordon LaRusic), Roseline (Don Barrie); brother, Paul (Marie-Paul Dumond); sisters, Angélina (Paul Chamard) and Monique (Marcel Côtes); 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
On her 90th birthday, she had the opportunity to visit in North Sydney with her long time friends; they shared all the trials and tribulations of bringing up large families. And, loved it too.
She’s now resting peacefully with her husband in the “where-after†and will forever be in the heart of all her children.
Cremation, per her wishes, has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Joseph’s Church in North Sydney.
Condolences for mom should be forwarded c/o S.M. Sirois, 5866 Cabot St., Halifax, NS, B3K 2K1; smsirois@ns.sympatico.ca.
She’s been our front liner for her later years at the Halifax Northwoodcare. And, they also cared: we thank all the staff for their ongoing attention.
