SWEENEY, JOHN "JACK" WALTER - of St. Stephen, NB, passed away at Seaview Campground, Eastport, Maine, on July 7, 2011. Born January 13, 1930, at St. Stephen, NB, son of the late William T. Sweeney and Marvel A. (Mann) Sweeney, McAdam, NB. Survived by wife Maxine, and daughters Gail Sweeney (Ed Froud), Port McNicoll, ON; Jacklyn Flynn, Covington, LA; Michele Sweeney, St. Stephen, NB and sons Peter Sweeney (Sharon), Sault Ste. Marie, ON; Tim Harding (Ann), Edmonton, AB. Grandchildren, Justin Sweeney, Nicholas Smith, Riley Smith and Addie Smith. Several other grandchildren and great-children. Predeceased by son Doug and grandson, Sean.
Jack was a proud Korean War veteran and 48-year Legion member. In his younger years, he was an avid musician (drummer), scuba diver, softball and hockey player. He continued to enjoy curling and fishing (loved to be on the water in his beloved Boston Whaler), and was a voracious reader. Jack made may friends and acquaintances during his years in sports, music, politics and the automotive industry. He enjoyed many summers in Maine, where he gathered a new group of friends. He was a born entertainer and loved to tell a good story. Jack will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Resting at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St. Stephen, NB from where the family will receive friends on Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 1 to 3 p.m.St. Croix Branch #9 Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a tribute to a veteran service at the Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. Following the service the family will receive friends with a reception at the St. Stephen Curling Club.
