ELLIS, TIM - The death of Tim Ellis occurred at his residence on May 10, 2011. He is survived by his daughter Mary and her husband James Stokes-Rees; grandson Ian Stokes-Rees, his wife Emily and their daughters Maggie and Hilary, all of Boston; and by grandson Andrew Stokes-Rees of London, UK. He is also survived by his sister Audrey Stanley and brother Warren Ellis, both of Rothesay. Tim will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. Born in Montreal in 1916 to Harold G. D. Ellis and Elsa (Scarff) Ellis, Tim grew up in Rothesay and attended Rothesay Collegiate School. Upon graduating in 1933, he joined the Bank of Nova Scotia from which he retired in 1976. He was an active and well respected member of each community to which he was posted during his banking career. Tim served overseas in the Second World War from 1941-1945 with the 8th Princess Louise's New Brunswick Hussars, ending as a squadron commander and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for actions in Italy. From 1992 to 1995 he was Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of his regiment. Tim was an early member of the Saint John Flying Club and its president for several years. He was president of the Rothesay Area Heritage Trust, warden of St. Paul's Church, a member of the Byng Boys' Club, director of the Rothesay Pony Club, and president of the 8th Hussars Association.
To honour Harold’s request there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church, Rothesay. The funeral will be held at St. Paul's Church, Rothesay Common, on Friday, July 15, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery at a later date.
