CURRAN, David William – June 22, 1945 – June 29, 2011. Husband, father, grandfather and friend, David will be deeply missed by wife Diana (Sullivan), son Sean (Mara Shaughnessy – Poppy to Matilda and Tadhg), daughters Jennifer and Amelia; sisters Mary Mieczaniec (Jack) and Sue Beck (Hazen); brother Edward (Joann); sister-in-law Roz Sheppard and aunts Rita Tompkins and Mildred Cochrane. David was a lifelong champion of rural Newfoundland and Labrador communities. He believed strongly in the importance of healthy communities, working at Memorial University Extension Services, the Exploits Valley Regional Economic Development Corporation and as a consultant on rural economic development. An avid supporter of libraries and learning, David loved good books and classical music. He was blessed with a tremendous and memorable sense of humour and intellect. David was born in Gambo and is predeceased by parents Joseph Curran and Kathleen (Cashin) and brothers Joseph and John. Also leaving to mourn brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces, colleagues and friends. David’s family would like to extend special thanks to the Central and South Health Foundation Palliative Care Program and nieces Joann Griffin and Sheila Swett for their care and support. Fr. William Hearn conducted the Funeral Mass at Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on July 2nd, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers were Jackie Kelly, Joan Curran, Leo Murphy, Joe Sullivan, Garry Griffin and Sean Curran. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the David Curran Rural Development Memorial Scholarship at Memorial University, 20 Lambe’s Lane, St. John’s, NL A1C 5S7.
