It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother and friend, Patricia Nearing from this life into the arms of our heavenly lord and saviour Jesus Christ at her home on July 9, 2011.
Born in Glace Bay, March 27, 1943, she was the daughter of the late David and Jennie (McNeil) Scheller.
In her early years Patricia was a dedicated homemaker and later in life became a CNA and was employed at Holy Redeemer Infirmary in Sydney for 10 years. She also served for a short time with the St. Agnes CWL. Patricia was perhaps best known for her kind thoughts and words to all her friends from over the years. She always enjoyed company and a good cup of tea with everyone who came into her home and was loved by all those who knew her and an inspiration for many with her resilience and determination.
Patricia took in many people over the years and for many was a surrogate mother who loved and cared for them as her own. She had a strong faith and prayer life with a soft spirit which was reflected in her daily life. Her life revolved around her family and friend’s happiness and welfare.
She will be sadly missed by her loving children, sons, Kim (Janice) Nearing, Oshawa, Ont., Derrick (Maureen) Nearing, Pembroke, Ont., Kevin Nearing, New Waterford; daughters, Andrea Nearing, Toronto, Ont., and Carol Nearing, New Waterford. Grandmother to her eight beautiful grandchildren whom she so loved, Dawn, Daniel, Stephany, Emily, Thomas, Michael, Hannah and Reilly Nearing; brother-in-law, Johnny Nearing and wife Ylonne; sister-in-law, Laura Scheller; special aunt, Mary Jane McNeil; and special friend, John LeMoine.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Fred Nearing and brother, Wayne Scheller.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A Christian celebration of her life will take place Thursday, July 14 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Bedford Doucette officiating and Fr. Ray Huntley con-celebrating. Cremation will follow with burial in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Victoria Mines, at a later date. A luncheon will be held at St. Leonard’s Hall, 310 Convent St., New Waterford, immediately following the funeral mass. All are welcome.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
