It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Grant Campbell, 56, of Plummer Avenue, New Waterford on Sept. 16, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Grant and Hilda (MacPhee) Campbell.
Kevin was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Agnes Church, New Waterford, where he was also a member of the parish council finance committee for a number of years. He received a bachelor of science degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S., in 1979. Soon after, he became employed with the town of New Waterford and later with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality as a draftsman. Drawing and oil painting were also favourite hobbies of his. He particularly enjoyed drawing various types of ships, notably a small bookmark drawing of the Queen Elizabeth II which he presented to the captain’s wife as a gift. He also enjoyed building model ships, cars and helicopters.
Kevin loved dogs, especially his two ‘girls’, Shelby and Abby, who were often seen walking by his side. He was also known to be an avid reader, well read on current affairs as well as key historical events which shaped our future. A noted author of interest to Kevin was Vincent Bugliosi.
Surviving are wife, Frances (Tetford), formerly of Harbour Grace, NL; brother, Lionel (Vivienne), Ottawa; sisters, Betty (Louis) Nearing, River Ryan, Mary (Connie) Morrison, Sydney; 12 nieces and nephews.
Kevin was predeceased by a sister, Maureen Anthony.
Visitation will be held today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Kevin will take place Saturday, Sept., 19 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Cremation will follow. A luncheon will be held at St. Agnes Centre, Convent Street, immediately after the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Cape Breton Branch SPCA.
