Sarah ‘Pat’ Vacheresse, 83, of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, and a former resident of 9th Street, New Aberdeen passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at the manor.
Born in Poona, India, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Kathleen (O’ Dwyer) Maloney.
Pat was a member of Warden United Church, New Aberdeen. She was a war bride moving to Cape Breton in 1946. Pat was a homemaker and the welcome mat was always there for friends and neighbours. She and her family enjoyed many years camping in Mira (Burke’s Campground) and at one time operated the canteen at Mira Gut.
Pat is survived by a daughter, Carol (Gordon) Sheriff, Albert Bridge; daughters-in-law, Tana Traboulsee, Belinda Vacheresse; three sons, Timmie (Ann), Gardiner Mines, Gary (Brenda), Glace Bay, Ricky (Avis), Dutch Settlement; brother, Tom Maloney, England; brother-in-law, John MacKinnon, Marion Bridge; a sister, Biddy Davies, England; and a sister-in-law, Annie Redmond, Glace Bay.
Pat is survived by 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Harold Wilkinson, second husband, Gordon Vacheresse and three sons, Skip and Allan Wilkinson and Dennis Vacheresse.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Clayton Austin will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Warden United Church followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
