It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, Frances DiFlavio on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009.
Frances was born in Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1955 with her son, Luke (Charlene) and husband, Annuncio. She also has two more sons, Anthony (Helena) and Joseph (Sheila), Sydney; three daughters, Patricia (deceased), Sarafine (Keith - deceased) and Mary (Gerry), Sydney; brothers, Tony, Italy and Attilio (Marg - deceased), Sydney; daughter-in-law, Paulette, Sydney; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Quinto Marchetti and their children, John and Anna; nieces, Alicia and Vanessa and nephew, Gabriel, all of Halifax; nieces and nephews, Italy and cousin, Helen Bartinni, Pittsburgh. Frances was blessed with many grandchildren, Charles, Gena, Tony, Joey, Tiffany, Mathew (Amber), Ian, Keith Jr., Gerry, Jenny, Chelsey, Susanne and Francesca, whom she loved dearly and who dearly loved her. She was also given a second blessing in the last couple of years of her life, three great-grandchildren, Luca Jr., Sophie and Anthony III, which were her pride and joy.
Frances was predeceased by her mother, Anna; father, Pascal and sister, Gaetana, all from Italy and brother, Gabriel, Halifax.
Anyone who knew Frances, knew how much she loved life, family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for them and they loved her cooking. For 10 years, Frances was the owner/operator of Nunzie’s Spaghetti and Pizza Shop on Victoria Road and was famous for her lasagna and pizza burgers. She also loved to knit and could knit a pair of mittens faster than her grandkids could get them wet. Frances also loved feeding “her†birds, as she called them. Even in her final days, she made sure “her†birds were fed. She was thoroughly loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Saturday) 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Monday 11 a.m., with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. Following the mass a reception will take place at St. Nicholas Church Hall.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
Sweet sparrows in the morning, food is late today,
the hands that fed have flown away, weep not sweet bird,
