MacPhee, Donald Franklin – “80”, Belmont
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we his children announce his passing on July 12, 2011 at his home. Born April 20, 1931, he was a son of the late Frank Augustis and Laura Jean (Crowell) MacPhee. Dad was the patriarch of our family. He will be deeply missed by us and all whose lives he touched. He was totally devoted to his entire family, He was our Rock, our banker, advisor and our guidance. He ruled with a heavy hand and a warm heart. No matter what was going on in our lives, he was always there for us. Dad enjoyed his life in Belmont where he worked as owner of a meat shop. He was also a carpenter foreman for B. O. Robichaud and Sons Contracting until his retirement. He loved gardening and his hobby farm. Don is survived by his children, Donnie MacPhee, Donna Bowman, Debbie Lindsay, Betty Simms, Bev Beaton, Cathy Fisher, Parker MacPhee; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Percy MacPhee; sister, Yulla Weatherbee. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley Joan (Shearer); daughter, Shirley Joan MacPhee; son-in-law, Tony Beaton; two grandsons; brothers, Gerald Bruce, Alfred Augustis; sisters, Sharon McNutt, Edna O’Connell, Olive Mae. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15 from 7-9 pm; funeral service on Saturday, July 16 at 3 pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Interment in Belmont Cemetery. Donations in Don’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester Regional Hospital or a charity of choice. Don’s children would like to thank Cindy and Dr. Berghuis for their personal touch and the Colchester Community Funeral Home for their sympathy and understanding in our time of need.
