Magdalen Frances (Harrietha) Snow, formerly of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully in Montreal on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 at the age of 91, under the loving care of her daughter, Magdalen Hamelin, and son-in-law, Denis Hamelin.
She was born on June 16, 1918, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, to Lucy (Murphy) and Andrew Harrietha. Besides her daughter, she has two sons, Daniel in Toronto and Albert (Tanya) in Calgary, and four grandchildren, Danielle and Mélanie Hamelin in Montreal, Adam and Alana Snow in Calgary, and is survived by a brother and sister, Steve Harrietha, Marie Payne in Glace Bay and many nieces and nephews.
Magdalen was predeceased by her three brothers, Francis, Gaulbert and Edward, and her two sisters, Regina and Anne.
She was a caring, fun person, who loved to take a road trip at a moment’s notice. She had the gift of gab and enjoyed playing cribbage, 45's and bingo. She was a great Mum, a real character, loved by all. Her family and friends meant everything to her. Magdalen never fully recovered emotionally from the tragic death of her husband, Sgt. Dan Snow from Glace Bay who died in an RCAF helicopter crash in 1961 in Northern Alberta.
Visitation will take place on Monday, September, 21, 2009 in the V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Johns Church, Glace Bay. Magdalen, a proud Cape Bretoner, will be laid to rest next to her husband in the parish cemetery, Glace Bay.
