Born: October 28th, 1928

Passed in: Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: September 20th, 2009

Surrounded by her loving family, Mom passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
She was born in Bay du Nord, N.L., to ‘Teacher’ Tom and Frances (Lundrigan) on Oct. 28, 1928. She moved to Sydney in 1952 where she and her husband Lawrence ‘Red’ raised their seven children.
Surviving are her children, Marguerite (late John) Pittman, Bernie (Margo), David (Margie), Lillian (Bruce) Andrews, Larry (Kim) and Maurice ‘Moe’. Also by daughter-in-law, Janice. ‘Nan’ was cherished by her 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her new great-grandson in North Carolina and her great-granddaughter in Ontario.
She is survived by her sisters, Genevieve, Patricia (Pat) Hickey, Alice (late Fred) Hickey, brothers, Kevin (Late Lill) and Alphonsus (Viola), sisters-in-law, Teresa Farrell and Pearl Farrell.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, son, Adrian ‘Sam’ in 2008, brothers, Pat, Dave and Gerald.
Our community has truly lost an icon. Eileen will be remembered for her endless kindness to anyone she met, as her front door had an ‘open door’ policy. It was known that Sunday dinners could feed from two to 10 persons easily. Friday mornings meant making ‘home-made’ bread and date squares, and you could count on going home with a care package of goodies after your visit. Her religious affirmations started many years ago with ‘starching ‘ altar clothing, and her proudest moments were listening to Moe reading at Saturday evening mass.
Mom’s regular personal treats consisted of Pepsi pop, Double Bubble gum, playing Wednesday night bingo on TV and chocolate treats. Lady, the family dog, was her daily companion.
Visitation for mom will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund or Cape Breton Palliative Care Unit.
