HALIFAX - It is with deep sadness that we the family of Seward Thompson, 87, of Halifax, and formerly of River John, announce his sudden passing with his family by his side in the Northwood Center, Halifax.
Born in River John, he was the son of late James and Jessie (Heighton) Thompson.
Seward was in the army, worked in the dockyard in Halifax and retired from the Dept. of Transportation.
He was also a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou, and Branch 108, River John.
Surviving are daughters, Gloria Thompson, Halifax; Linda Thompson, Quebec; special daughter, Debra Jennings, Halifax; sons, David, Halifax; Gordon (Jeanie), Truro; Daniel (Shirley), Lyons Brook; Kenneth, Fort St. John, B.C.; grandchildren, Bryce, Jennifer, Caitlyn, James, Harold, Tammy, James; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew, Kelsie, Kayla, great-great grandchild, Serena, sisters, Darlene (Lionel) Duplessis, River John; Marjorie Hicks, Moncton; brother, Billy Thompson, River John.
He was predeceased by his wife, Edith (Dryden), siblings John, Chester, Lloyd, Percy, Joyce and Edna.
Seward had many nieces and nephews that were dear to him. He especially enjoyed his boat trips on the river.
The family wishes to thank Dorothy, Roz, Susie, and staff of Northwood Manor for their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in St. John the Baptist Anglican Church River John.
Family flowers only, in lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, River John, with Rev. Bill Cook officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Service, Pictou.
