James Buckley

BUCKLEY, JAMES “UKE, BUCK” ELDRIDGE - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James E Buckley of Saint John NB on July 18, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on May 12, 1928 in Saint John NB, Jim was the son of the late Leo and Margaret Buckley. He will be so sadly missed by his loving wife of 56 years Mary G. (Bunny) Buckley (Rogers), his son’s Marshall (MaryElla), Scott (Mary), and daughter Joanne Nadeau (Rob), his much loved grandchildren Adam Buckley, Erin Buckley, Spencer Nadeau, and Kate McGrattan. Very much still the big brother to sister Agnes O’Donnell and brother Clint Buckley. Brother in law to, Phyllis Buckley, Helen Buckley, Marion Williams, and James Noftell. Also survived by number of nieces and nephews including his special niece Dianne Rutherford who he shared an interesting philosophy of life with. Besides his parents Jim was predeceased by his first son Jimmy, brothers John, Robert and Gerald, sister Audrey, father and mother in law Murray and Florence Rogers sisters in-law Ella Noftell, brother in laws Harry Mason, Ronald Williams, Ernest O’Donnell. Jim’s cherished second home for 42 years was the Saint John Dry Dock, retiring from work and the art of the practical joke in 1993 at an over the top retirement party at sea aboard the new HMCS Montreal frigate during sea trials. The life long friends from the Dry Dock came second only to family with Jim. It was all Dry Dock in the Buckley house, you watched Dad play baseball with the boys from the Dry Dock, hunted with the boys from the Dry Dock, you camped at Wally’s with the boys from the Dry Dock, and when the boys stopped over for a cold one the talk was always about how no one could build a better ship, bridge you name it. After retirement, Jim became a volunteer at the Romero House Soup Kitchen and had so many great times with the staff and volunteers, and all the people he met who stopped in for a home cooked meal. He was very honored for being nominated at the 2011 Saint John Volunteer Appreciation Awards in April for his years of service at Romero House by Councilor Bruce Court. He also loved watching his beloved New York Yankees, and his daily get together with his friends at the Loch Lomond and McAllister malls, or a drive too St. Martins, Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Belleisle Bloomfield or any where in between to stay in touch with his Friends.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, (646-2424) with visitations on Tuesday, July 19th from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, July 20th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joachim’s Catholic Church on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 12 noon.
