Henry "Ossie" Martin
MARTIN, HENRY "OSSIE" - Henry Osborne “Ossie” Martin of Saint John East, devoted husband to Lois (Farris) Martin, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 18, 2011 from the Saint John Regional Hospital with his wife at his side. Born in Saint John, NB on February 18, 1923 he was the son of the late Charles and Asta (Larson) Martin. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Lois Martin, son David (Barbara) of Woodstock, NB, two grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six great grand children, and four great step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Lillian and daughter Cindy, four brothers and one sister. Henry is the last surviving member of his family. Ossie was a veteran of World War II, serving on Naval Ships overseas in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Henry was a thirty-five year member of the Saint John Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to become District Chief, retiring in 1984. He was a founding member of Cornerstone Baptist Church where he received spiritual blessing and friendly fellowship. He had been a member of the former Central Baptist Church for over thirty years, serving on many Boards and Committees. Henry was a avid hunter and fisherman most of his life and enjoyed gardening and spent many happy hours doing so at his home he built in Lakewood Heights and the cottage he built in Cambridge Narrows.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visiting hours on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 from Cornerstone Baptist Church, at 11:00 am with Rev. Harold Braun officiating. Interment to take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Donations to the Cornerstone Baptist Church or charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
