LAFFERTY – Elizabeth
September 2, 1922 – September 18, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Lafferty (nee Mercredi) at the age of 87 years on September 18, 2009 at Loewen’s Personal Care Home in Prince Albert, SK with her family at her bedside. Elizabeth was born on September 2, 1922 in Fond du Lac, SK to Louisa and Moise Mercredi. She grew up in Fond du Lac and met Alphonse Lafferty. They committed their eternal love for each other on June 16, 1942 and together they raised five children. Elizabeth was known for her beautiful Dené beadwork. She made jackets, mittens, moccasins, mukluks, necklaces and various accessories. These items were given to family members and one special item was given to Queen Elizabeth. Elizabeth loved to spend her time outdoors with trapping, berry picking, hunting and most of all having a family picnic with an open fire. She was devoted to her Catholic faith. She attended mass every Sunday and prayed the rosary. Elizabeth is survived by her daughters Margaret (Jerry) Piochion of Stony Plain, AB, Florence Hallett (Glen Ahenakew) of Prince Albert and Clara (Joseph) Dusseault of Prince Albert; her son Steven Lafferty of Prince Albert; her sister Roseanna (John Louis) Lafferty of Morinville, AB; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Alphonse Octave Lafferty; her parents Moise and Louisa Mercredi; her daughter Nelda Lafferty; her grandsons Russell Lafferty and Mark Dusseault; her son-in-law William Hallett; her 2 brothers Boniface and George Mercredi and her 2 sisters Marie Tralenberg and Dora Tralenberg. Elizabeth lived the last four years at Loewen’s Personal Care Home. She received the utmost love, respect and the best care from Brenda and her staff. Our family cannot thank Loewen’s Car Home enough for being a second family to Elizabeth. A special thank you to Bernice and Frankie, you will have a place in our hearts forever. Prayer Service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Mr. Brian Clarke officiating.
