James Fanning

James Daniel Fanning, 89, of the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Pictou, formerly of Little Harbour Road, passed away July 18, 2011 in the Unit.
Born in Isaac’s Harbour, Guysborough County, he was a son of the late Norman and Blanche (Sinclair) Fanning.
James was a resident of the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit for the past six months having previously resided on Little Harbour Road in New Glasgow. He was a veteran of World War II having served overseas in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.
He was employed with the former Maritime Steel in New Glasgow for most of his working life.
He is survived by sons, Charlie (Mary), New Glasgow; Jim (Joan), Hardwood Hill; grandchildren, Robert (Charlene) Fanning, Ottawa; Sarah, Halifax; and Daniel, at home.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Catherine Reba ”Johnena” MacMaster and a brother Charles.
Cremation to take place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook presiding. Burial of ashes to follow in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Donations in memory of James may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Pictou.
