It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we, the family of Catherine ‘Kay’ Howie announce her passing on July 19, 2011, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Robinson) Neary.
Kay was very devoted to her faith, family and community.
Kaye is survived by daughters Patti (John) Fukala, Sydney, and Kathleen (Derek Bourgeois) Howie, Glace Bay; sons, Fred (Evelyn) Green, Sydney, Robert (Pam) Green, Alberta, and Jason (Ashley) Howie, Glace Bay; grandchildren J.P., Matthew and Jeremy Fukala, Christine, Fred and Jennifer Green, Joey, Jason and Sean Green, Haley Budden, Shealene, Alyssa, Kaylee Howie, also by six great-grandsons; sister, Veronica (James) Stonier, brothers, Peter (Theresa) Neary and Allister (Elsie) Neary, all of Glace Bay.
Besides her parents, Kay was also predeceased by her husbands, Frederick H.T. Green in 1964 and Edgar ‘Teg’ Howie in 2008, sisters, Marg, Frances, Irene, Bert and brothers, John, Andrew, Tim, Alex and Pat.
As per her request, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place.
A funeral mass to celebrate Kay’s life will be held Friday, July 22 at 2 p.m. in the Parish of St. John’s, New Aberdeen with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Luncheon to follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Palliative Care Anla Unit, C.B. Regional Hospital.
